TRAINING SYSTEM

The buddy box training system, we are now using, the system work’s with a std transmitter connect to the pupils model transmitter via a lead, this system is used to hopefully save a lot of training models (and have done so) each of the instructors have a transmitter, (futaba only) but this can mean there is only one transmitter for Saturday Training so if there are to many pupils training they will have be patient, so remember, to check the instructor list to see who is On the weekend you would like to fly, please ask the instructors on advice on which models etc to buy for training so we can Get the right model from the start.

And remember that you must hold fixed wing ‘A’ to fly solo or be in the presents of ’A’ holder

AT THE FLYING FIELD

The instructor will explain our peg system and show you how to use are pegboard, he will also explain the flying rules to you. Before you can fly an aircraft, you have to be able to control it using the transmitter. The instructor will demonstrate the effect of the various controls on the model and the various points that you have to check for (This is similar to a full size pre-flight check). The most common method of controlling model aircraft nowadays is to have the transmitter operating in Mode 2. This techno-babble simply means that the aileron and elevator are controlled by the left hand "stick" while the right hand "stick" controls throttle and rudder.

He will also demonstrate how to fuel, prime and start your engine safely and how to adjust it for optimum performance. After these demonstrations, you should be able to carry out these procedures yourself. They are very straightforward although starting the engine will take some practice.

If you are flying "buddy-box", he will tell you when you have control. If not, he will pass the transmitter to you and you are in control. Listen and act on his instructions. Remember that all control movements should be gentle. If the instructor considers that you have lost control of the aircraft he will regain control. Again, if you are flying "buddy-box", this will appear to be done magically as the aircraft will suddenly right itself! If not the instructor will have to "re-possess" the transmitter. There will be no "Please hand me the transmitter" politeness when he wishes it back. It will be jerked from your hands so please let him have it! Don't worry when this happens. It's happened to everyone! When you have recovered, you will get another chance to fly.
